What is the minimum order?
Our minimum order is just 12 pairs for a programme — and we will happily make a single pair too. Bulk tiers drop steeply once a pattern and a mark are shared across a crew.
How fast will my boots arrive?
Made-to-measure boots take longer than stock footwear and we quote the real date rather than a hopeful one. Where a wedding or an event date is fixed, we work backwards from it and tell you honestly if there is not enough time.
Can I order from a size chart?
You can, and it is the least reliable way to buy a boot. With no laces, the last shape decides fit — two boots in the same stated size on different lasts fit completely differently. Send measurements instead.
What measurements do you need?
Length, ball width, instep height, heel, and the circumference of your calf at its widest. The calf is the one almost nobody is asked for, and it is the most common reason a boot fits the foot perfectly and still cannot be pulled on.
Should new boots slip at the heel?
Slightly, yes. That slip disappears as the sole flexes with wear. A new boot with no heel slip at all is usually too small — which is the opposite of what most people expect, and why so many boots get sized down and then abandoned.
Welted or cemented?
Welted, if the boot has to last. A welt lets the sole be replaced several times without disturbing the upper; a cemented sole is glued on and the boot is finished when it wears through. Compare cost per year rather than price.
Will you resole boots you did not make?
Yes, provided they are welted. If they are cemented there is usually nothing to rebuild onto and we will tell you so rather than take the money and disappoint you.
Do boots really need breaking in?
Yes, and anyone saying otherwise is selling something. Good leather moulds to your foot over a couple of weeks. What it should not do is hurt in a specific spot — that is a fit problem, not a break-in problem, and we would rather fix it than let you push through it.
